Standing
The Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana, U.S.A. has judged NationsUniversity compliant with Louisiana law in the matter of granting degrees in religious studies.
What about accreditation? In the United States, schools and universities volunteer for a comprehensive review process to assure institutional integrity and academic quality. The standard is based on criteria developed by accrediting agencies which are recognized by the United States Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education. A degree from one accredited school is generally recognized for admission to a higher level program at other accredited schools. Courses usually transfer if they are similar and meet the graduation requirements of other accredited institutions.
At this point in its history, NationsUniversity has not sought accreditation of its programs. The reason that NationsUniversity exists is to make a college level education in Religious Studies available to highly motivated students who want to prepare for church leadership but are unable to attend accredited Christian universities for financial or other practical reasons. We have been able to provide quality independent study courses without cost by avoiding the costs associated with bricks and mortar, by recruiting university professors and other professionals to volunteer their expertise and services, and by receiving generous support from friends who share our goal.
Now, after several years of successful operation and a growing donor base, the school's Board of Regents voted at its December 2007 meeting to pursue accreditation with a recognized accrediting body. A person has been hired to guide the process and a self-examination has already commenced to identify those areas which need to be strengthened.
Will NationsUniversity credits transfer to an accredited university? Credit transfer is done on a more select basis when the credits come from an unaccredited institution. A good academic record is more likely to receive a favorable review than a poor one. In some instances, NU students have had their work recognized, but we cannot guarantee that others will receive our work at this point.
