State Licensure
Institutions offering distance education at the post-secondary level are required by federal law to conform to state regulations pertaining to degree programs. Every state has been contacted. What we have learned after reviewing the application of this law in each of the 50 states is that they are all different and that the rules can change at any time. At this moment, our conclusion is that NU can continue operating in 46 states without further effort. We are free to operate in most states under the religious studies exemption clause or under the individual state’s no-physical presence definition.
The four states presenting stiffer licensure requirements are Arkansas, Alabama, Nevada and Wyoming. Since we have no current students in the latter two states and their licensure requirements are quite rigorous, we will not pursue licensure at this time.
Existing students in Alabama and Arkansas will be able to complete their program under a teach-out agreement. Exemptions have been granted to permit offering the Certificate Program. New students are limited to the Certificate program only.
NationsUniversity continues its policy of offering religious studies courses to any desirous student. The limitation pertains to granting of degrees only. Degrees cannot be awarded to any new student living in Arkansas, Alabama, Wyoming, and Nevada, at this time.
When a new student registers with an address of AR, AL, WY, or NV, he/she is contacted and informed about the degree limitations. No invoices are sent to American students living in these states until they have been informed about the degree limitation.
