These pages compiled by Torrey Seland of Volda University College, Volda, Norway, “are intended as a resource for serious, scholarly studies of the early Christian writings and their social world.” Page one provides links to Bible texts (in the original languages, in several English versions, and in many European and east Asian translations), Apocrypha & Pseudepigrapha, Gospel of Thomas, Qumran texts, Josephus, Philo, Gnostic texts, classical texts, rabbinic texts, and the Church Fathers. Page two provides links to electronically published biblical studies; page three provides links to resources for the study of the Greco-Roman world. Contains a separate page for the study of Philo. |

Bible Study Web Sites |
Provides access to full-text Bibles (39 historic and 25 modern) searchable by Scripture and links to about 95 Web sites with full-text of modern Bibles. Among the historic Bibles are Coverdale, Tyndale, Geneva, Bishops’, and Campbell’s Living Oracles. Under “modern Bibles (websites)” there is a link to the New English Translation of the Septuagint (2009), by Pietersma. |

Among the searchable English versions are the NIV, NASV, The Message, New Living, KJV, English Standard, Contemporary English, NKJV, TNIV, Holman Christian Standard, and ASV. Can search for Scripture from up to five versions simultaneously from the Passage Lookup link and for term from Keyword Search link. The full-text of the IVP New Testament commentaries (published in the 1990s) is available for the following books: Matthew, Luke, John, Acts, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, James, 1-3 John, and Revelation. Click on Use Commentaries and on the N.T. book you wish to read commentary for. |

Among the searchable English versions are the Good News Translation, The Message, English Standard, Holman Christian Standard, NKJV, New Living, RSV, NASV, ASV, TNIV, and NRSV. Six foreign translations (French, German, Arabic, Italian, Russian, & Spanish) are searchable. Can search by Scripture or term. The Parallel Bible screen allows searches of two versions simultaneously. The history screen under "History BC" provides links to the apocryphal books and under "History AD" links to the Church Fathers. One of the dictionaries linked is Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology; the Nave's Topical Bible is one of the concordances linked. |
